There was a big storm that kept you up all night long. You were listening to the wind and hail hit your home. In the morning as your leaving for work you notice roof shingles in your yard and think “oh no now we need a new roof”. What do you do next?
Option #1 Call the 1-800 number for the insurance company and call in the claim
Option #2 Call your Agent directly
Correct option: You should always be calling your Agent directly. We are always here for you and your needs but when it comes to a claim this is our time to really shine for you. Here’s what our initial advice will look like:
1. We are going to discuss what occurred and what your concerns are. We are going to make sure there are no items that need addressing now. For example, if you have a broken window from hail then we would recommend boarding it up so additional damage doesn’t occur.
2. Then we are going to call 2-3 Roofing Companies for you and ask them to come out and inspect the roof. These aren’t just any roofing companies. These are companies we were work with often that have great reputations because of their quality of work, customer service and pricing/warranties.
3. We will advise that you don’t speak to any roofing companies that are walking around trying to gain your business. When big storms occur it’s very common for everyone to come out of the wood work trying to obtain your business. Many of these companies lack proper insurance, have poor workmanship and are hard to reach after the work is complete because many of them aren’t local and in fact came from neighboring states looking for work.
Why are we having a roofer come out to inspect the roof prior to putting in the claim? Isn’t time of the essence?
It’s very important that you have an expert look at the roof because a few shingles may not amount to anything more than that. Once you call in a claim you have a claim on your record for 5 years and even if nothing is paid out it still hurts your claim record and insurance rates. This is HUGE, so it’s important to always take a deep breath and let us assist you throughout the process. Now if your Agent isn’t offering the same service or the only number you have to call is a 1-800 number, then we highly suggest you start looking around for a new company or a new Agent. Having someone by your side can save you money in so many aspects. We would love to “interview” for the job as well so call, email or text us today or click here for a free quote.
