The starting of your policy is easy because your Lender will require insurance documents but when to cancel your “old” home is something they will need your feedback on. Are you moving slowly? Typically, your home owner’s insurance will cover the items in an apartment as well as long as the majority of your personal items are in the home. Most commonly 90% of your items are in your home and 10% are way. This will help you with the additional expenditure since you won’t need renter’s insurance.
Now, let’s say you’ve rented a storage unit what happens with covering those items?? Well, this scenario will be similar to the situation above where you’ll be covered just for a small percentage of items. There tend to be exclusions such as flooding so make sure you ask your Agent these questions beforehand. Now if you’re a business and you take out a storage unit for additional stock that’s a totally different scenario so the bottom line is that communication with your Insurance Agent is very important!
