You are making dinner and next thing you know a small fire starts on your stove. It looks like you left some oil or butter on the stove top when you were cooking the evening before. You don’t have a fire extinguisher after continually telling yourself you should really buy one to put under the kitchen sink. What now??
1. Throw some flour on top of it?
2. Put a lid over the fire pan?
3. Pour water on the fire?
Never put water or flour on a grease fire-never ever. The best option is to turn the heat source off, try to cover it to eliminate the oxygen by using a lid or another pan. If you can’t cover it then dump a lot of baking soda on it. We mean a lot! This will only work if the fire is small, and know when to call the fire department. Don’t wait too long or injure yourself trying to contain it.
What’s the best tool truly to put out a small fire????????????
A Fire Extinguisher. We suggest you buy one at your local hardware store. If you have multiple levels to your home then please put one on each level. Set a reminder on your phone to check your smoke detectors, to do an emergency fire evacuation and to check the age of your extinguishers.
Be safe!
